Description
17 Walmgate is a house and shop located in York. The building features an early 19th-century front and a mid-18th-century rear block, with a shopfront that was altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of buff-brown brick in Flemish bond, with a timber shopfront, timber eaves frieze, and guttering supported by paired modillions beneath a pantile roof.
The exterior is three stories high with a one-window front. The shopfront is framed by part-grooved pilasters and has moulded imposts beneath a fascia, along with a moulded cornice positioned between grooved and dentilled brackets that feature triangular gablets. The shopfront includes a plate-glazed door and a window above a glazed brick riser. On the first floor, there is a tripartite window with 4:12:4-pane sashes, while the second floor has two squat 12-pane sashes. All windows are fitted with painted sills and channelled lintels. The interior has not been inspected.
