Description
No. 64 High Street is a late 18th-century shop and storage building. It is two storeys high, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a half hipped peg tile roof that features an off-centre red brick stack on the rear slope. At the back, there is a lean-to that is likely from the same period. The front facade includes two wide double hung sash windows with glazing bars, flanking a central, narrower sash window of similar design. The entrance is marked by a central doorcase with an open pediment supported by brackets, and the moulded architrave extends into the frieze zone. A contemporary flight of stone steps leads up to the door, accompanied by a well-crafted iron handrail. On either side of the entrance are 20th-century bowed shopfronts on brackets, featuring small panes of glass. The front elevation also displays 20th-century pargetting. The building is primarily noted for its group value within the streetscape.
