Description

This drinking fountain, dating from the 19th century, is located in the station forecourt of Harwich. It was manufactured by George Smith & Co, Sun Foundry, Glasgow. The fountain features an octagonal cast-iron structure with a plinth, a concave waist, and a tall barrel that has a moulded base. At the top, there is a double flange with decorative fixing bolts, leading to an ogee domical top with a finial. One face of the fountain has an ogee-shaped bowl, and each facet is framed with a moulded band, displaying a decorative strapwork motif on every other face of the ogee top.
