Description

No. 9, West Street is a shop and former house dating from the late 16th century with 19th-century additions. The building is timber-framed and rendered, featuring a Welsh slate gabled roof and a square ridgeline stack at the northwest end. The front of the building has one double-hung sash window with margin glazing and a central glazing bar on the first floor. The ground floor has a squat tripartite double-hung sash window and a mid-19th-century doorcase with a flat hood supported by foliate consoles. The door itself is of two vertical panels with moulded surrounds. A lean-to roofed dormer with a small-paned two-light casement is visible on the roof.

Inside, the late 16th-century floor structure retains spine beams and stop-chamfered joists with run-out stops. Historically, the building originally had a jetty to the southwest rear. Evidence of a 17th- or 18th-century fireplace remains, complete with an oak mantel beam.
