Description
Holland and Barrett Health Food Shop is a cottage that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the 16th century or earlier and has undergone later alterations. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tiled roof. It features two rear red brick chimney stacks and is two storeys high. On the first floor, there are two small paned vertically sliding sash windows. The full-width red tiled porch encloses 19th or 20th century shop bays that are angled to the right and left, along with a central small paned shop door. There is a rear wing, and inside, the storey posts and heavy arched braces to the tie beams are visible. The building has a halved and bridled top plate scarf, heavy flat section ceiling beams, and bridging joists. Originally, it had a crown post roof, with notches visible on each rafter pair, although a full inspection of the roof was not conducted during the re-survey. An angle chimney stack is also present.
