Description

This boundary marker post, dating from the 19th century, is located on the roadside pavement adjacent to the southwest corner of the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Little Wakering. It is made of cast iron and features a square post topped with a circular bell-shaped head and a finial. Below the head, there is a square panel with moulded letters "ST. B.H." and a Coat of Arms, which relate to St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London. The advowson and land were granted around 1190 by William de Taydena to the Master of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, who held patronage until 1960, when the Bishop of Chelmsford took over the Right of Presentation. This post is one of two similar markers at the church.
