Description
No. 21 Cromwell Lane is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the early 19th century. The building is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a half hipped, plain tile gambrel roof.
The exterior features two storeys with an attic and a cellar, presenting a two-window range with a separate parallel range at the rear. The front elevation has a low parapet and two 9-pane sash windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a central doorcase with a flat moulded hood and moulded architrave, leading to a door with two ornamental moulded panels. Flanking the door are two 12-pane sash windows.
On the south-east return elevation, there is one 12-pane sash window on the first floor of the rear range and a 20th-century plain window in the attic. The north-west return elevation features a 20th-century attic window, one 12-pane sash window on the ground floor, and access to the cellar. The rear range is two storeys high with a gabled concrete patent tile roof, containing two sash windows with margin glazing on the first floor. The ground floor has a canted flat-roofed bay window with margin glazing and a 20th-century two-light casement. There are two large stacks on the rear wall of the main block, along with a small lean-to extension at the north-west end, covered with 20th-century concrete patent tiles. The interior has not been inspected.
