Description
This barn, located approximately 30 metres west of Sain's Farmhouse, dates from the 15th to 16th century, with a roof that was replaced in the 19th or 20th century. It is constructed from timber framing and is weatherboarded, featuring a half round corrugated iron roof that resembles a midstrey. On the right side, there is a lean-to granary supported by brick pillars, which retains its original door and ironmongery. The barn comprises five bays and includes halved arched braces on the walls. The jowled storey posts now have hanging knees, and the original arched brace mortices with dowel holes are still visible. The top plate features halved and bridled scarfs. The unusual boarded vaulted roof structure from the 19th or 20th century includes three queen posts for each tie beam.
