Description
Sheepcoates Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. The front range is made of painted red brick, while the structure also features timber framing. It has a hipped roof covered with red plain tiles and includes three rear wings. The chimney stack is off centre, with a square attached shaft and an additional red brick stack on the left. The house has two storeys and attics, and the front has a three-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes. The central entrance features an 18th-century recessed six-panelled door with reveal panels, a moulded surround, a frieze, and a flat canopy. The layout is half H-shaped, with a hipped stair turret situated between the hipped rear wings. Inside, notable features include a fine 16th-century open well staircase with splat balusters, a moulded string, a first-floor soffit, moulded handrails, and disc finials on the newels. The bridging joists throughout are lamb's tongue stop-chamfered. There are also two large inglenook fireplaces at the back, and the bedroom windows and door have reeded surrounds and corner patera.
