Description
This barn, located approximately 15 metres south-south-west of Farding's Farmhouse, dates back to the 15th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The barn consists of five bays arranged in a northwest-southeast direction, with a midstrey to the southwest and two aisles. The roof is hipped at both ends.
The structure features jowled posts, arched braces connecting to the arcade plates and tiebeams, and arched shores extending from the aisle ties to the arcade posts. The barn has edge-halved and bridled scarfs and a reversed assembly at the wallplates. The southeast bay has been altered. The original crownpost roof is present in the two northeast bays, with axial braces leading to the collar-purlin and down braces connecting to the tiebeams, although one brace is missing from each crownpost. The remainder of the roof has been rebuilt, and the walls are lined with cardboard.
