Description
Totham Lodge is a house, now serving as a home for elderly persons, built around 1880. It is constructed of red brick and features red plain tiled roofs. The building has three red brick chimney stacks with attached diagonal shafts, moulded capping, and bases. It has an asymmetric plan, with two storeys and attics. To the left, there is a hipped two-storey gabled bay, and to the right, two adjoining gabled bays. The facade includes a range of bay windows with vertically sliding sashes, some consisting of three lights. The central bay features a first-floor oriel window with hanging tiles underneath. Moulded brick decorative arches are present above the first-floor windows on the left and right bays, with the right bay having tall windows below. A red tiled lean-to porch with stained and leaded lights is located to the left of the central bay. The attic has three-light small paned casements in the right and centre bays, with the centre bay showcasing striated plain and fish scale hanging tiles. There is a main red tiled porch on the right return, built on a brick plinth with a glazed timber frame and glazed double doors.
Inside, the main hall is square and features a segmental pointed arched arcade that supports a balcony, which is accessed by a grand open well staircase. The ceiling is moulded, and there are six panelled doors with reveal panels. The kitchen has a panelled surround with patera. Stained and leaded windows are present, as well as similar windows on some doors. The ground floor has many red tiled floors and a significant amount of vertical beaded board panelling on the walls. Totham Lodge was originally the home of Lord and Lady De Crespigny.
