Description

This barn, located approximately 60 metres west of Clare Down Farmhouse, dates from the late 15th century to early 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, resting on a brick base. The barn features eight bays and aisles, topped with a hipped corrugated iron roof that slopes to the left. A central midstrey is present, along with jowled storey posts and a side purlin roof. The structure includes arch braces to the tie beams and crown posts in four of the bays, with a reversed assembly in the aisles and a bridled scarf joint. There are two louvred openings and a loft door located to the right of the midstrey.
