Description

No. 36 London Road is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is timber-framed with a front made of ashlar rendered brick and features two parallel ranges of hipped slate roofs, with concrete pantiles on the inner slopes and rendered stacks on each flanking slope.

The building has two storeys and a filled cellar, with a three-window range. On the first floor, there are recessed 12-pane sash windows set under segmental arches. The ground floor features a central doorcase with a cornice or hood, panelled pilasters, and a rectangular fanlight. The door consists of two vertically moulded panels with semicircular heads. Additionally, there is a tripartite small-paned sash window and another 12-pane sash window.

The north-west elevation includes one 12-pane sash window, one 8-pane sash window, and a small window above two slate-roofed lean-tos. The south-east elevation showcases a canted first-floor oriel with a dentilled cornice, small-paned sashes, and a 'wine glass' profile soffit. The ground floor here has two 12-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds.

At the rear, the garden elevation is clad in white weatherboarding and features one 12-pane sash window on the first floor above two similar windows, along with a hipped-roofed lattice-work open porch. The door here has a fanlight above it and a square window below the porch. Inside, there are two marble fireplaces.
