Description
This is a mid-19th century house located on London Road, Maldon. It is constructed of cream Gault brick in a Flemish bond, with stucco dressings and a slate hipped roof of a U-plan, featuring stacks on each flank, the north-east stack being truncated. The exterior presents a symmetrical three-window facade with a wing extending to the south-east. The front is articulated by four giant pilasters with stucco capitals. The first floor has three large 16-pane sash windows each with a stuccoed flat arch and keystone. A slightly projecting porch with Tuscan piers, a cornice, and a blocking course sits centrally on the ground floor. The recessed front door features four boldly moulded panels and a rectangular fanlight. Flanking the porch are matching 16-pane sash windows, mirroring those on the first floor. The north-west flank elevation displays two 12-pane sashes above one larger 16-pane sash. A single-storey service block of matching brick and a slate roof adjoins the south-west side, with a 16-pane sash on its roadside elevation. A rear service block, formerly a wash-house, provides access to the rear yard and includes a loft above. The interior features an open-well staircase with stick balusters, shaped tread ends, and a wreathed handrail. Original panelled pantries and contemporary doors with moulded architraves are also present.
