Description

34 and 34A London Road are a pair of semi-detached houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of painted brick and feature hipped slate roofs with a large central chimney stack and smaller stacks on the sides.

The houses are two storeys tall and have a symmetrical four-window layout, with the center section projecting slightly forward. On the first floor, there are 16-pane sash windows on either side of a blind recess. The ground floor mirrors this arrangement, but No. 34 has had the small panes removed from the lower sash, while No. 34A features a square small-paned bay window.

The recessed area of No. 34 includes a 12-pane sash window above an open porch, which has a hipped slate roof and lattice-work in painted timber. This porch features a central elliptical arch and narrow semicircular-headed side openings, along with a four-flush-panel door. No. 34A has been extended forward with a lean-to covering the formerly recessed part, which includes a 16-pane sash window above a 20th-century semicircular-headed door, flanked by small-paned sash windows.

There is a 20th-century flat-roofed garage attached to the northwest side, and No. 34 has a two-storey rear wing. The rear elevation features 16-pane sashes on each floor, with two similar windows on the main rear section on the first floor, above a single-storey lean-to extension. The interior has not been inspected.
