Description
This is a house located at 36 Market Hill, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a gabled M-profile roof made of machine-made plain tiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a two-window range.
On the exterior, there is one gabled dormer with a two-light 20th-century casement window. The moulded timber eaves extend continuously from the adjacent house. The first floor includes one 16-pane sash window with a moulded surround and one 8-pane sash window. The ground floor features a 24-pane 20th-century oriel bow window with a reeded surround, designed as a replica of a previous window. There is a simple open-pedimented doorcase leading to a passage and a side entrance.
The rear elevation has another gabled dormer with a two-light casement window, along with a 16-pane sash window and an 8-pane sash window on the first floor. The rear door to the passage has four raised-and-fielded panels within a heavy frame, and there is a 20th-century entrance door along with a tripartite small-paned sash window. The northeast flank of the passage is covered in white weatherboarding and is paved with bricks laid on edge.
Inside, the house features good quality late timber framing with twin chamfered spine beams.
