Description

46 Market Hill is a public house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red Flemish-bond brick and features a gabled Welsh slate roof. The building stands three storeys high with a cellar and has a three-window range. It has a wide eaves overhang.

On the second floor, there are three 12-pane sash windows with cambered gauged brick arches. The first floor features a 16-pane sash window on either side of a central blind recess. The ground floor has window arches for two similar windows, which have been altered to create two 19th-century public-house windows, each with two lights, a fascia, and a hood. The central doorcase is notable for its wide overhanging cornice hood, Doric fluted pilasters, and a recessed door with four glazed panels above two moulded panels, along with panelled reveals.

The north-east elevation is asymmetrical with a gable and two stacks, while the ground floor has a 20th-century imitation of the front doorcase. The rear of the building has two storeys and features a projecting lower block with a catslide roof. In the recessed part, the first floor has one 16-pane sash window and one 12-pane window, both with segmental heads. The ground floor includes one 16-pane sash window, an entrance door at the top of a flight of stairs, and access to the cellar. The projecting part has one 16-pane sash window above a larger sash and a cellar light. The interior has not been inspected.
