Description
This barn, located 40 meters south-west of Hill Farmhouse in Lambourne Parish, dates from the late 16th century. It is timber framed and covered in black weatherboarding, topped with a peg tile roof that is gabled at the south-west end and hipped at the north end. The barn features off-centre great doors that are sheltered by an extension at the rear. Originally, it consisted of four bays supported by jowled posts and long, curved external braces, although the tie beam braces have been removed and replaced with knee braces. At the north-east end, there is a later bay that was formerly an open-sided shed, now supported by cast iron corner posts. The roof of the main barn has been rebuilt with 'V' struts and side purlins. This building holds group value with Hill Farmhouse and other nearby outbuildings.
