Description
Blackboarded Cottages is a pair of attached cottages dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are timber framed, weatherboarded, and plastered, with roofs made of handmade red clay tiles. The cottages are aligned northeast to southwest and feature a central chimney stack, with lean-to extensions on the northwest side.
The cottages are two storeys high with attics. On the southeast elevation, cottage number 3 has a weatherboarded ground floor and roughcast above, with a glazed door and one 20th-century casement window on each storey. Cottage number 4 has a weatherboarded ground floor and plastered upper section, with one 19th or 20th-century casement window on each floor. Both cottages have gambrel roofs and weatherboarded side elevations, with an attic window. Cottage number 4 also features a 20th-century porch. There is some exposed framing in cottage number 4, along with exposed joists above the ground floor, a face-halved and bladed scarf in the wallplate, and repaired brickwork in the hearth.
