Description

Piggotts Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse, dating to the late 17th century, with additions and alterations from the mid-18th century and early 19th century. It has a pyramid slate roof. The building is arranged on a square plan with main facades facing east and west. Each facade has three bays of double-hung sash windows, featuring single vertical glazing bars and moulded surrounds. The east elevation has a blocked central doorway, topped with a flat hood supported by small brackets. The west facade features a central flat-hooded doorcase, which has a dentilled cornice and a moulded frieze panel. Above the doorcase is a three-light window with pointed Gothic heads. The building follows a "double pile" plan. It has a timber frame constructed of substantial timbers. Inside, there is extensive mid-18th century panelling, alongside a contemporary staircase with turned balusters and scrolled tread ends. A mid-18th century alcove cupboard is found in a ground floor room; it includes serpentine shelves, thin pilasters, a half-domed head, and a contemporary painting of Ceres. Some windows retain their original internal shutters. The remains of two large, late 17th-century chimney stacks are present, topped with early 19th-century gault brick stacks.
