Description
The large, roofed cattle yard located to the east of Hill Farmhouse dates from the late 19th century to early 20th century. It is a very large complex, approximately 120 to 150 feet long and 40 feet wide. The structure features two attached roofs that are hipped and clad in pantiles, with the roof over the yard being significantly higher than the red brick housing range. This housing range has 15 doors facing into the yard and is supported on the north side by brick piers. The south side of the roof is supported by 14 moulded cast iron columns, each with capitals and bases. The roof construction includes timber tie beams connected to brick pillars and iron columns, which are topped with fully framed Queen posts and King Posts at the apex. This building is considered quite unusual for the county.
