Description

This is an 18th-century stable block, originally part of Rolls Park (which has since been demolished). It has been converted into a house and stands on the southeast side of Chigwell High Road. The building is constructed of stock brick with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The brickwork is in Flemish bond at the front and English bond at the rear. It has nine bays arranged approximately northeast-southwest. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear of the southwest end. The stable block is single-storied, with a symmetrical elevation. Each bay features a shallow, round-arched recess; the central bay now contains a 20th-century door, while the remaining bays have 20th-century windows. A hipped roof covers the building, and a central open cupola is topped with a square dome.
