Description
Tailours is a house built in the early 18th century and extended in the 19th century. It features plum brick with red brick dressings and is topped with handmade red clay tiles. The building has a square plan and faces southeast, with side chimney stacks. There is a three-storey block to the west, dating from the 19th century, and a single-storey ancillary building with a hipped roof to the north. The house has two storeys with attics and includes a central door with fielded panels and a rectangular light above, featuring geometrical tracery. The wooden doorcase is decorated with naturalistic carvings of fruit and foliage on the jambs and brackets, and has a pulvinated frieze and flat hood. It is accessed by three semi-circular stone steps with moulded nosings. The ground floor has four double-hung sash windows with 12 lights each, while the first floor has five such windows, all with cased frames, jambs, and flat arches of red brick. A string course runs at the first floor level, and the building is topped with a parapet that has stone coping. There are three flat-roofed dormers with casement windows, and the house also includes a cellar.
