Description
The forecourt gateway, railings, and wall of Tailours, located on the west side of High Road in Chigwell, date from the 18th century. The wrought iron gateway features an arched head and an arched overthrow with scrolled surrounds. It is positioned in the center of a run of wrought iron spiked railings that are mounted on dwarf walls made of red brick in English bond, topped with stone coping, and extending approximately 12 meters in length. There are brick piers at each end, also with stone copings. At the southern end, there is a brick wall that forms a quadrant, measuring approximately 2.5 meters long and 2 meters high, along with a third pier. Additionally, a pair of domed stone bollasters is set into the ground beside the gateway.
