Description
The wall at Rolls Park, dating from the 17th century, is located on the southeast side of Abridge Road, opposite the junction with Chigwell Lane. It is constructed of red brick with lime mortar in a random bond, topped with stone coping. The straight section of the wall runs approximately 195 metres in length and stands about 4 metres high. It features tapered piers on the northwest side at intervals of about 4 metres, with interruptions for a wide gateway leading to Garden Cottage Nurseries and a narrow gateway for Garden Cottage. The wall's thickness is mostly around 34 centimetres, increasing to 45 centimetres at the piers and 50 centimetres at the base. At the northeast end, it is bonded to an 18th-century wall that is approximately 6 metres long.
There is also a curved section at the southwest end, which is included for group value with The Stables. This section is approximately 3 metres high, has been more altered and repaired, and forms a splayed entrance that is now blocked. It continues southwards to the gateway of The Stables. This wall formerly served as the boundary wall of Rolls Park before it was demolished.
