Description
The Chigwell Golf Clubhouse is an early 19th-century house that has been extended to serve as a clubhouse. It is constructed of stock brick, with the front elevation finished in stucco and a slate roof. The building is aligned approximately northeast to southwest, with a northwest aspect. There are two chimney stacks, one located in the northeast end wall and another in the rear pitch of the southwest end. The original rear wing features a lean-to roof at the southwest end.
The clubhouse includes a two-storey extension with a flat roof on the northeast side that extends to the rear; the upper half of this extension is weatherboarded while the lower half is plastered, dating from the 20th century. The main structure has two storeys with attics. The central entrance features a six-panel door set within a plain stucco doorcase, accompanied by a trellised porch. The building has a two-window range of double-hung sash windows, each with 16 lights, which were added in the 20th century and are framed by original stucco surrounds. The stucco is marked to imitate stone blocks, and the building is topped with a cornice and parapet, culminating in a mansard roof.
