Description
Oak Cottage is an 18th-century house that was extended in the 19th century. It is timber-framed with a stock brick facing to the front and approximately 3 metres on each side, using a Flemish bond pattern. Some roughcast rendering is visible on the south side, while the rest of the exterior is weatherboarded. The roof is slate-covered. The house is aligned approximately northeast to southwest, facing southeast, and has external chimney stacks on both sides. A central entrance hall is present. A small, single-story extension exists at the southwest end of the main elevation. A two-story lean-to was added to the rear in the 19th century, featuring an external chimney stack on the rear wall. There is also a single-story brick extension to the rear. The house has two stories and attics. The front door is a 3-panelled door with a rectangular light above, featuring tracery arranged in tangential semi-circles. The doorcase is made of wood and includes two engaged Corinthian columns, a frieze, and a swept-up architrave with a depressed segmental pediment. On the ground floor, there are two double-hung sash windows with six lights each, set under flat arches constructed with gauged brick. The first floor has three similar windows. A parapet with stone coping tops the building. The roof is a mansard roof, incorporating three flat-roofed dormers.
