Description

This is a range of three cottages dating from the mid to late 19th century. The cottages, numbers 50, 52, and 54, are part of a group that also includes numbers 40 and 44 to 54 (even). They are constructed of stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The cottages are aligned approximately northwest-southeast with a southwestern aspect, and are arranged in an 'H' shape with two crosswings. Two chimney stacks are located in the central range. The cottages are single-storied with attics. The central entrance has a boarded door with a diamond-pane window, which is a 20th-century addition. A modern Regency-style bow window has been added to the left crosswing. There are three casement windows with diamond leading, also dating to the 20th century. Above, on the first floor, four similar casement windows are set within gabled dormers, again of 20th-century origin. An open, single-pitch tiled canopy extends across the front between the crosswings, supported by six posts with arched braces. A course of dog-tooth brickwork is located immediately above the canopy.
