Description

Belmont Lodge is a 19th-century lodge constructed from stuccoed brick with a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with wings extending to the south and east, and chimney stacks located in the north and east walls. The entrance is positioned at the southwest angle, facing the original approach to Chigwell Hall. The single-storey wings extend north and east from the northeast corner, featuring a hipped roof that creates a canopy over the rear entrance. There is also a canopy over the original front door at the southwest angle. A 20th-century chimney stack is found at the northeast corner.

The south elevation has a gable end designed as an open pediment, with the central part of the ground floor slightly projecting forward. On the ground floor, there is one double-hung sash window with 16 lights from the mid-19th century, and above it, a 19th-century casement window with a round arch, a semi-circular drip mould, and a false keystone in stucco. The roof has a low pitch with projecting eaves and paired brackets. The west gable has identical architectural treatment. Originally, the southwest elevation featured a door at the angle, flanked by simple pilasters and double-hung sash windows with 12 lights on either side of the door. The canopy was enclosed by a glazed screen and a glazed outer door added in the 20th century. The rear windows have been replaced with 20th-century casements.
