Description
The forecourt piers, gateway, and railings located to the northwest of Chigwell Manor House date from the early 18th century. The wrought iron gate and gateway are flanked by wrought iron railings on a dwarf wall, which is approximately 48 meters long. The dwarf wall is constructed of red bricks in Flemish bond and features stone coping. At each end of the wall, there is a brick pier topped with stone coping. Originally, the entire structure formed a symmetrical arrangement. The original gateway is no longer in use, as a double gateway from the 20th century has been inserted in the southwest section. While the railings have been restored, the gate and gateway remain largely original. The stone urns that were noted in the 1952 schedule were missing at the time of the 1983 survey.
