Description

  1. 5213 SPRINGFIELD ROAD (North Side) Hop-kiln and office and store at No 7 (former Gray's Brewery) TL 7106 NW 4/210B 21.11.78

  1. C19. Two storeys on an L-plan, with a hop-kiln within the return of the two ranges. The kiln has a tall truncated square-conoid roof with a flat lid to its open top; slate-clad with leaded hips. The street frontage is of stock brick with 4 pilasters and a first-floor band projecting. Roofs ridged, gabled and slate-clad with eaves and troughing. Door central to frontage ground storey with a window on each side, beneath brick arches. First storey had a central loop-hole and a window 6 courses deep on each side. One stock brick chimney stack. The east end of the front range has its first-floor band enlarged into serpentine pediment of brickwork with a circular stone medallion carved with a phoenix and dated 1801.
