Description

Stone Bridge, also known as Old Bridge and Moulsham Bridge, was built in 1787 to the design of J Johnson, the County Surveyor who also designed the Shire Hall. It spans the River Can, connecting Moulsham Street and High Street. The bridge features one segmented stone arch with a span of about 40 feet and stone balustrades with round, bulbous columns. The bridge has a width of about 30 feet. It is noted that the first bridge on this site is said to have been constructed in the 12th century.
