Description
The maltings on the west side of the courtyard at No 7, formerly part of Gray's Brewery, dates from the mid-18th century and consists of two sections. The northern end is constructed of yellow stock brick, while the southern part is made of red brick in Flemish bond. The building has nine bays, with the west side wall featuring stock bricks and three-course bands of red bricks every twelve courses. The windows have cambered arches, and there are wall anchors at each bay. The roofs are slated, and the overall plan is rectangular with a slight angle in length. Inside, the first floor is made of slate supported by heavy joists, with a central row of cast iron columns. The roof includes tie beams and raking struts, along with king bolts.
