Description
This building is a malthouse and hop kilns located about 20 yards west of Lower House Farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick and features slate roofs. The structure consists of a four-bay range oriented east to west, with a two-bay wing at the west end and three kilns attached to the north elevation. The building has three levels.
On the main south elevation, there are four two-light casements with cambered heads on the ground floor, a two-light and a three-light casement, also with cambered heads, on the first floor, and four two-light casements on the second floor. The two-bay wing has two levels and is adorned with a dentilled eaves cornice. Its south elevation features a three-light casement on the first floor and two external chimneys with offsets. The hop kilns are square in plan and topped with pyramidal roofs that have cowls. The north elevation of the kilns includes small openings with cambered heads. Inside, the drying floors are reported to still be intact.
