Description
Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 17th century and underwent alterations in the late 19th century, with restoration completed in the late 20th century. The structure is timber-framed with rendered infill on a brick base, featuring brick replacement walling and plain tiled roofs. The layout consists of a hall and a cross-wing, with the hall being a single framed bay aligned east to west and the cross-wing comprising two framed bays at the west end. There is an external chimney with a brick stack on the rear south side of the hall, as well as a rebuilt external chimney on the rear gable end of the cross-wing. The building is single storey with an attic. The framing includes three rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with collar and tie-beam trusses supported by struts. All windows are 20th-century casements. On the north front elevation, the hall features two square windows on the ground floor and a skylight, while the gable end of the cross-wing has two square windows on the ground floor and an attic light. The main entrance is located on the west side of the cross-wing, which includes a 20th-century gabled canopy and door. There is also a lean-to outshut with a catslide roof at the rear of the hall. The interior retains a winder staircase in the cross-wing.
