Description

Peter's Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and replacement walling, all set on a tall brick plinth with sandstone blocks at the base of the posts. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The building consists of two framed bays that are aligned roughly north to south. There is an external rubble chimney with a detached brick stack and a lean-to bread oven located at the south end, as well as another external brick stack at the north end. The house has two storeys and a cellar, with five rows of panels from the sill to the wall plate in the framing. The tie-beam trusses have lattice struts at the gable ends.

On the west front elevation, there is a 2-light cellar casement with a cambered head positioned to the left of the plinth. Each main storey has two 3-light casements, one dating from the 19th century and the other from the 20th century, with the ground floor windows featuring plank weatherings. The main entrance is on the east elevation and includes a 20th-century door. There is also a 20th-century wing added to the north-east. Inside, the framing is mostly intact except for the north end wall.
