Description
Newnham Mill is a corn mill built around 1700, with alterations made in the early to mid-19th century and restoration completed in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a shallow-pitched Welsh slate roof. It has three levels and a dentilled eaves cornice, with two bays. The windows are all from the 20th century, primarily consisting of 2-light casements with cambered heads. Each gable end has a window on the upper levels and a door on the lower level; the south-east gable end includes two additional windows on the right side where the machinery is located. The main entrance is situated on the south-west side elevation.
Inside, the roof was raised during the early to mid-19th century and includes collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. The mill's machinery is complete and fully operational. A cast iron undershot wheel on the north-east side powers three pairs of French burr millstones. The original wooden wheel was replaced by a cast iron wheel in March 1837, with the new wheel and gearing mechanism cast by Turtons of Kidderminster.
