Description

Fur Cottage is a house dating from around 1740, with an extension added to the rear in the early 19th century. The structure features a plastered and whitewashed timber frame outshut made of brick, topped with a thatched roof.

The cottage is one storey high with a dormer attic. The east front has a central early 20th-century half-glazed door beneath a gabled porch hood. To the left of the door, there is one 6/6 horizontally sliding sash window and one 2-light casement window with glazing bars at the extreme south. To the right of the door, there is another 2-light casement window with glazing bars immediately adjacent to a 6/6 horizontally sliding sash window. The elevation includes two painted plaster devices that likely conceal tension plates.

There are two gabled dormers, each fitted with 2-light casements with glazing bars. A double-flued ridge stack is located to the left of the centre, along with a gable-end stack on the north side. The rear of the cottage features a full-length outshut, partly covered with pantiles. There is a late 20th-century 2-light casement window to the left beneath a gabled thatched roof, along with four additional 20th-century windows across the rest of the elevation. A low external stack is positioned to the left. A single gabled dormer is fitted with a 2-light casement. The north gable has a late 20th-century half-glazed door, while the south gable features two late 20th-century 2-light casements on the ground floor and one in the attic.
