Description

Nether House, formerly Cypress House, is a house with origins possibly dating to the 17th century or earlier, significantly altered and extended in the 18th century and later. It is constructed of timber framing with panel pargetting. The roof is covered in red plain tiles, and a concertina shaft brick chimney stack is located off-centre to the right. Two further red brick chimney stacks are at the rear. Originally, the house incorporated a crosswing. The two-storey facade has a three-window arrangement of small-paned vertically sliding sash windows within moulded surrounds. The central door is panelled and has a light above it, with moulded capitals to fluted pilasters, triglyphs and metopes to the frieze, and a pediment above. Plain hooped cast iron railings, with a matching central gate, enclose a small forecourt attached to the right and left angles of the house.
