Description
Rayne House is an 18th-century house constructed of red brick, featuring red plain tiled double range roofs and red brick chimney stacks on both the right and left sides. The building has a parapet with stone coping and stands three storeys tall with cellars. It has a five-window range of vertically sliding sashes with plain reveals and gauged brick arches, although two of the small second-storey windows are blocked.
A notable feature is the fine 18th-century cast iron full-length ground floor verandah, which has a curved glass roof, an ornate cornice, alternate trellising, and open arches between the support columns. The right return includes a door with four panels and two lights, topped with tracery above. The columns are Tuscan, with plain bases and moulded capitals, and there is a moulded cornice leading to a moulded pediment with dentilled soffits. Access to the house is via a four-step approach.
