Description

The war memorial, erected in 1928, is a free-standing square stone plinth topped with a rendered stone pier and a metal alloy statue of a Greek maiden. It was commissioned by a local benefactor, though the sculptor remains unknown. This memorial honors those from the parish of Pitsea and Bowers Gifford who lost their lives in the First World War. Although it has been relocated from its original site, it remains an unusual and unaltered example of a First World War memorial.
