Description

BASILDON

717/0/10024 HOWARD CRESCENT 26-SEP-05 War Memorial

II War memorial erected in 1928. Free-standing square stone plinth with rendered stone pier and metal alloy statue of greek maiden above. The memorial was commissioned by a local benefactor, but the sculptor of the memorial is unknown. The memorial commemorates those from the parish of Pitsea and Bowers Gifford who lost their lives in the First World War. Although moved from its original location, this is an unusual and unaltered example of a First World War memorial.
