Description

Little Cooper's Cottage is a house dating from the mid-16th century, with two bays on the left that were heightened in the late 17th century. The structure features weatherboard over a timber frame, a half-hipped thatch roof, and a brick ridge stack. It has a three-unit plan, likely originally open to the roof, which was remodeled in the late 17th century into a three-unit lobby-entry plan. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a three-window range. It includes a 19th-century plank door and 20th-century windows, while the dormer has a 19th-century two-light leaded casement with original fittings.

Inside, the cottage features late 17th-century ogee-stopped chamfered beams from inserted floors in the center and left. The chimneystack on the right likely replaced a former 16th-century smoke bay. The service room to the right remains unaltered from the late 17th century and is open to a common rafter roof. The first floor displays an exposed tie beam and wall plate assembly from the former 16th-century roof, which was removed and heightened in the late 17th century. The roof now has late 17th-century clasped purlins with original common rafters. The floorboards date from the 17th century, and the dormer window has mortices indicating where a former 17th-century diamond-mullioned window once existed.
