Description
Old Dungate Cottage is a house that dates back to the early 16th century, with extensions added in the late 17th century and alterations made in the 19th century. The original design features a smoke bay plan. The structure is timber framed, with brick cladding on the lower part and tile hanging above, topped by a hipped roof with end gablets. The cottage has three framed bays to the right of the chimney and an additional bay to the left. It stands two storeys tall and has a multiple corbelled stack positioned to the left of centre. The first floor has four leaded casement windows, while the ground floor has three windows and a part-glazed door located to the left of centre. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot.
Inside, the cottage features a through purlin roof supported by Queen-struts, with the end bay to the left built just two inches from the old range, and the exterior cladding now appears continuous. There is some evidence of sooting in the roof.
