Description
Upper Ifold House is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions added in the 1930s. It is timber-framed and has red brick cladding at the base, with tile hanging above. The lower courses of the walls are canted outwards over the ground floor, and the roof is tiled, with some courses of Horsham slabs along the eaves. The house is two storeys high, with tall stacks on the ridge to the left of the centre, further stacks at the ends, and at the rear. A gabled bellcote sits on the ridge to the right of the main stack. There are two hipped roof dormers to the left of the centre, over a pentice extension on the ground floor. A tile-hung, half-hipped projecting block extends to the right, with the first floor jettied. This block has one window on the first floor and three windows below. The original section of the house has three diamond-pane casement windows on the first floor, and three windows on the ground floor. A linking range is set back to the right, with three windows on each floor. A ribbed door is located to the left of the centre of the original range, with further doors on the returns. Inside, the main posts are jowled, the frame is visible, arched bracing is exposed on the first floor, and some original floorboards remain.
