Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with extensions added in the mid to late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is roughcast and was originally timber-framed, featuring a gabled roof covered with 20th-century tiles. It has a brick stack on the right end and two ridge stacks that are part of the early 17th-century structure. The cottage has been extended from a two-unit plan to a four-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a four-window range.

The central two bays are highlighted by a mid-19th-century bracketed flat hood that covers a six-panelled door, flanked by three-light leaded casements. The right outer bay features a horizontal sliding sash above an eight-pane sash, while the left outer bay has a two-light casement above an eight-paned horned sash. At the rear, there is a mid-18th-century two-storey range that is also roughcast, with a half-hipped old tile roof, leaded casements, and a 18th-century plank door to the left.

Inside, the early 17th-century portion of the house, which was likely built as two cottages, contains chamfered and stopped beams, a winder staircase to the right, and a timber-framed rear wall with braced posts. It also features a two-bay queen-post roof with clasped purlins.
