Description

Homestead is a 17th-century house located on the east side of High Street in Carlton and Chellington. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble that has been rendered and colorwashed, topped with a thatched roof featuring tile gable coping. It stands two storeys high with attics and has a four-bay plan.

The house features red brick gable end chimney stacks, with a double red brick ridge stack serving back-to-back fireplaces located between the westernmost bay and the next bay to the east. There is also another red brick ridge chimney stack situated between the two eastern bays.

On the south elevation, there is a large, three-light central dormer window. The first floor has three two-light casement windows, two of which have glazing bars. The ground floor includes three casement windows with glazing bars: two are two-light windows and the central one is a three-light window, all featuring timber lintels. The eastern bay has a 20th-century thatched porch.

The north elevation has three casement windows on the first floor, with the small central window being leaded. The ground floor also has three casement windows; the central one is a three-light window, while the others are two-light windows. The second bay from the west features a late 19th-century gabled door hood with brackets and scalloped bargeboards.
