Description
Lye Cottage is a 17th-century house located on the east side of High Street in Carlton and Chellington. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with stone gable coping at the eastern end. The building has a three-bay plan and stands two storeys high with attics, presenting a gable end to the road.
On the south elevation, there are two dormer windows, and on the first floor, three 3-light casement windows are visible. The ground floor includes one casement window with glazing bars and two sash windows with glazing bars in the upper sash, which are situated on either side of a gabled porch adorned with scalloped bargeboards.
The north elevation features four first-floor windows: two 3-light casements on the left, a 2-light casement with glazing bars, and a 19th-century sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor has one 3-light casement, three 2-light casements with glazing bars, and two gabled doorhoods, one of which has brackets and 20th-century porch sides. The gable ends have red brick stacks, along with an off-centre ridge stack on the west side of the central bay.
