Description

Two houses, likely dating from the late 15th century, with later alterations from the early 19th century and some 20th-century changes. The houses have a timber frame and are now clad in brick, with a tile roof. A large stack is located on the front wall to the right. They are two storeys high, with a dentilled brick cornice on number 3 and an exposed wall plate on number 4. There are four windows on the upper floor, consisting of two 3-light casements to the left and two 2-light casements to the right, all dating to the 20th century. The ground floor features three windows: a 3-light casement in the centre, and two windows of two lights to either side, all 20th century. Each house has two entrances. Number 3 has a wooden architrave and a 20th-century ledged and boarded door in the left-hand corner, and to the left of the central window, a wooden architrave under a timber lintel with a 6-panel 20th-century door. Number 4 has an entrance to the right of the central window with a wooden architrave, a blind soldier course to the head, and a 20th-century ledged and boarded door with strap hinges. Another entrance in the right-hand corner has a wooden architrave and a 20th-century ledged and boarded door. Visible framing in the south gable’s exposed truss includes two struts to the collar and clasped purlins. On the ground floor, remnants of the framing of the demolished number 2 house remain.
