Description
A house, originally built in the late 15th century, was later refronted and extended in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is now divided into two separate houses. It is constructed with a timber frame, now clad in brick, and has a roof covered in machine tiles. The building originally comprised three framed bays, with a stack inserted to the right of the centre bay, and an added brick bay extending to the right. Number 39 occupies the right-hand bay and the addition, while the remaining two bays form number 38. The building has two storeys, with a gabled dormer on the right. The upper floor has three 2-light casement windows with decorative gables, and a 3-light casement window to the right. The ground floor has five windows: a lancet window to the left, two semi-circular headed casement windows, timber cross-windows set under segmental arches, and a 3-light casement window under a segmental arch to the right. A 20th-century stable door serves as the entrance to number 38 at the left-hand corner. Number 39 has two entrances, one approached by two stone steps and a segmental-headed doorway with a ledged and boarded door, and another stable door under a segmental head at the right corner. The timber frame is visible in the right-hand gable, displaying two struts to the collar, clasped purlins, and curved wind braces visible internally. The rear wall exposes the wall framing.
