Description
No. 38 Welch Gate is a house built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped tile roof and a dog tooth brick cornice. The building is two storeys tall with an attic that is illuminated by three gabled dormers.
The east front has five windows, which are 8-pane boxed sashes, except for the window to the left of the centre, which is blind. On the ground floor, there are two windows similar to those above. To the left-hand corner, there is an entrance with a pilastered doorcase, a flat canopy, and a two-leaf half-glazed door. The central entrance features a wooden architrave, a flat canopy supported by scroll brackets, a 2-pane overlight, and a door with six raised and fielded panels. To the right of centre, there is another entrance with a plain wooden architrave, which originally had a flat canopy on wooden brackets (now lost), and a four flush panel door.
Inside, the staircase has turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The property was unoccupied at the time of the survey in June 1985.
